Community Studies is an applied sociology program that provides a foundation for students to explore the social services, community development practices, and social justice efforts to address social inequities. Sociological theory and research principles guide critical academic exploration and development, which will be applied to hands-on practicum field experience under the supervision of faculty and professionals in the community.

Our Ethnic Studies programs offer a broad array of courses in African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Mexican American/Chicano Studies, Native American Studies, Gender and Ethnicity, and the European Experience. We also offer general courses on American ethnic groups in sociology, psychology, anthropology, and history.

The Intercultural Studies Associate in Arts degree prepares students for careers in which they will interact with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds. The Intercultural Studies major is an interdisciplinary major drawing from coursework in sociology, history, humanities, geography, anthropology, and a foreign language.

Our social science programs are designed to highlight the interconnectedness of various scientific disciplines. The curriculum enables students to understand how issues and events are shaped by diverse socio-economic, political, ecological, biological and geographical forces.
The study of sociology facilitates careers in public policy, law, politics, social services, and international work. An advanced education in sociology can also lead to teaching at the high school, college, and graduate levels. Sociologists are also involved in research at the local, state, and federal levels, and in both private and public sector industry. Finally, many sociologists apply their education to working with local and global communities to support social justice issues.
